Remix culture
Remix culture is a style that encourages artists to combine and make edits to preexisting concepts, icons, and materials to remix them and make a completely new work. Remix culture believes that no object is permanently fixed and allows artists to reframe the original narrative of said object, song, artwork, or design through deconstructing, transforming, contrasting, or re-using media. Remix culture is heavily used in rap music, graffiti, storytelling, and much more.
“All ideas are secondhand, consciously and unconsciously drawn from a million outside sources. We are constantly littering our literature with disconnected sentences borrowed from books at some unremembered time and now imagined to be our own.” — Mark Twain
1. mushroom hand with a bite
Firstly I just kinda looked for objects that interested me and I draw a lot, mushrooms first came to mind and then teeth, which I thought could be used for the little white dots. I wanted the mushrooms to be sporting from something so I settled on this lovely hand model
2. Oreo milk ship
For this one, I started with the theme of like cafe food with the cake dish and then I liked the idea of the Oreo shape combined with that, but I felt like that was kinda boring so I found this cute little toy ship and I thought... how can I connect these? When I think of Oreos I think of milk so I found a little milk splash and it all came together
3. playing god
With this one I started with the gun and I wanted to do some contrasting imagery so I added angel wings and I thought about how it represented life and death so I wanted to emphasize that by having death more represented thus I added a skull. I also just liked the idea of a gun poring out liquid
4- Noodle through the heart
Honestly, there are no words to explain this one. I just wanted to combine 2 things from my childhood I like, teddy bears and pasta, I like that the teddy bear kinda looks like a meatball
5. pirate's favorite
This one is pretty simple in design and also in creation. I was looking under the tag pirate as my girlfriend suggested and I found this cool pirate hook and I thought about where I could add it to ... and a pair of fancy high heels came to mind.
6. magic snake go brrrrrr
I first found the little magic star thingy and I really liked it and I wanted to originally have it coming out of a bottle but I couldn’t find any I liked haha but I looked around for things it could be coming out of and I found this really awesome snake! I liked how magical it looked and I wanted to add something to the bottom (since it had a weird bottom part before) and I thought the hourglass matched the aesthetic so I added it
7. Mr fire hydrant
Not really much to say about this one, simply a little fire hydrant with not one, not 2 but 3 top hats! I admit this one is a bit dumb lol
8. Rose pipe
With this one, I first found the pipe model and I thought it would be cool if I mixed it with some flower imagery, I started with the flower blossoming from the top part and then added the spikes on the sides, I thought it didn’t look that well combined so I added more petals and I added the cute little smoke cloud to keep with the pipe look.
9. Yamaha
Honestly, I just wanted to use a piano and a motorcycle in one of my mashups and I decided... why not put them together? I actually think it looks pretty cool. Also isn’t it weird that Yamaha makes pianos and motorcycles?
10- jack in his final box
I wanted to toy around with a jack in the box since they always scared me as a kid, I couldn’t find a good model so I had to take a clown model and make the spring part. I thought it would be cool to replace the box with a different type of box... a coffin!
