mushroom hand 🍄
week 3
a) original objects from Thingiverse :)
b) my refined object
Feedback
My group recommended some ideas for a few of my concepts from last week, for the rose pipe design it was to perhaps add a leaf platter showcasing the item, along with using bigger spikes to empathize them and incorporate realism in the leaves and stems by using texture and higher definition models. The Yamaha design was also a favorite and for that one, it was recommended to show its movement by perhaps putting it on a road in a setting. Finally, for the mushroom hand design which I decided to refine in meshmixer the suggestions were to incorporate the concept of mushrooms coming out of a tree, either having the hand itself sprouting from the tree or more mushrooms coming out of the stump of the hand. The other suggestion was to experiment with using different types of teeth (like animal teeth).
I really appreciate the feedback I was given and I knew that I definitely agreed and wanted to use it in this part of the assignment. After I chose to use the first concept, I added both the animal teeth idea and the mushrooms coming out of the hand. I think it added fore variety to the model and made it more interesting. I also added some smaller plants sprouting from the hand which was just my own idea. I did this because I wanted to incorporate more naturality and environment to the model which was suggested for some of my other concepts :). It was hard to find any realistic plantlife models so I played around with a few and settled on this one that kinda reminds me of lego plants which is a bonus in my book.
Remix culture
My concept model is a mashup of separate pre-existing ideas and forms to form a new one, the mushroom Juxtaposes the teeth creating a relationship of soft and mushy vs hard and sharp. They connect in the sense of nature, the hand, the mushrooms, and the teeth, the small plants are all naturally incorporating but it somehow feels odd and unnatural to see them all mashed up together. Remix culture encourages remixes like the ones in our projects this past week and this week and creates so many interesting and eye-opening views on the world around us. By mashing things up, by juxtaposing different concepts we embrace the weird, unsettling and unpredictable to make something worth looking at and thinking about. Remix culture can have such a powerful role in important our social and political perspectives. We as a culture are constantly changing and evolving and I think remix culture just embraces that notion. For my work, it may not have a political or metaphorical background but I think it makes the viewer question their own reality and what they think of as real or fake, what's natural or unnatural, what's unsettling or normal?
